Privacy statement
What we collect through this website, why, and what you can ask us to do about it.
Who we are
This website is run by Silk Route Imports Limited (NZBN 9429051957889), 181G Great South Road, Takanini, Auckland 2112, New Zealand. You can reach us at silkroutenz@gmail.com.
What we collect when you send a form, and why
When you send us a trade enquiry, an order list, a supplier enquiry or a message, we collect what you enter. Depending on the form, that includes your name, your business name, your email address, a phone number if you give one, your type of business, how many shops you have, your website, your town, region or country, the products and quantities on your order list, and anything you write in the message. The form also tells us which page it was sent from.
We use it to reply to you and to deal with your enquiry or order. We do not ask for payment details on this website.
What stays in your browser
- Your order list is kept in your own browser until you send it or clear it. The website sends nothing on it to us until you press Send order enquiry on the order list page. If you pass the list on as a link, the lines are part of that link, so they reach Base44, the platform that hosts this website, whenever someone opens it.
- The site remembers how you last chose to view the range. Until you close the tab it also remembers how far down each page you had scrolled and, if a page failed to load, when the site last reloaded itself.
- If you sign in, your sign-in is kept in your browser too, and your visits are recorded against your account.
Accounts
You do not need an account to use this website. The staff sign-in page lets a person create one with an email address and a password, or with a Google account, and the account is then kept by Base44, where our staff can see its email address, the name on it if there is one, and the date it was made. An account that we have not invited sees nothing more than any other visitor. If you made one and want it removed, email silkroutenz@gmail.com.
How we count visits
The site keeps a random identifier in your browser and uses it to record visits. A record holds the pages opened and when, how long the site stayed open, the address of the page that linked to us, and campaign or advertising codes if the link you followed carried them. We also record searches of the range that found nothing, or no exact match, and, when a form is sent, a few of its answers that do not name anyone, such as type of business, region and what you are interested in.
The identifier, and the address of the page you are on, also travel with requests the site makes for data, including the request that sends a form. So although these records do not hold your name or contact details, the record of a visit could be matched to an enquiry sent during it. Base44 counts page views as well, without the identifier.
How we limit spam
To limit automated spam, the form handler works out a code from your network address and keeps that code, not the address, so that it can count how many forms one sender has sent in an hour. Codes more than two hours old are deleted as later forms arrive. Base44 may keep technical logs of its own.
Who can see your details
Our own staff, and the people who maintain this website for us. Most enquiries are also emailed to some of them, so they are held by their email providers as well; a message held as possible spam is not emailed. The website and its database are run for us by Base44, so what you send is held on its systems, which may be outside New Zealand.
If you use a WhatsApp button on this website, your own device opens WhatsApp with a short message already written: a greeting, or a link to the page or to your list. What you send there is handled by WhatsApp under its own privacy policy.
We do not sell your details, and we do not pass them to other companies for their marketing.
How long we keep them
We keep enquiries and order lists for as long as we need them to deal with you and to keep our business records.
Seeing or correcting your details
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it. Email silkroutenz@gmail.com. If you are not happy with how we respond, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz (opens in a new tab).
Changes
If we change how we handle your details, we will update this page.
